Self Defense for Students
The transition to college is a pivotal moment in a young adult’s life. It is an exciting time filled with new experiences and opportunities, but it also comes with a new set of responsibilities, including taking care of oneself. Unfortunately, violence on college campuses is a significant concern that cannot be ignored. Homicide is the second leading cause of death for individuals between 18-24 years old, and students must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to handle dangerous situations.
Studies have shown that crime on campus is prevalent, affecting students at all types of institutions. Shockingly, between 20% and 25% of women in college have reported experiencing an attempted or completed rape, while males face an increased risk of being victims of aggravated assault. In the past, many universities adopted a “don’t ask, don’t tell” attitude towards violence. However, progressive administrators are now taking a proactive approach towards student safety, acknowledging the reality of violence on campus.
Learning how to negotiate dangerous situations is an integral part of a student’s growth and development. It is crucial to instill good safety habits alongside good study habits. At our Institute, we offer a comprehensive self-defense program designed specifically for college students. Our program covers everything from prevention and avoidance to non-lethal methods of defense and tactics of escape and evasion. In just 90 days, students can learn proven methods of survival and feel confident in their ability to navigate any situation.
